HomeX is an end-to-end technology and services platform for both homeowners and service providers, radically improving the historically complex and fragmented home services industry.
About the Job
Radically changing the home services industry requires a significant investment across a breadth of research topics. The science group at HomeX is expanding to help us do exactly this. We are currently working to solve some of the hardest problems in the areas of stochastic optimization, vehicle routing, logistics, dynamic pricing, natural language processing, machine reasoning, knowledge engineering, and ontology. Joining our Applied Science group now provides opportunities to help define future direction, break ground in new areas, and contribute back to the community.
We’re looking for a Data Scientist / Engineer to join our applied science team in Cambridge, UK. You’ll be responsible for developing state-of-the-art, real-time data and decision pipelines that help us maintain insight into our exponentially growing ecosystem of consumers and home service providers. Your actions will drive the strategy of several other teams, influencing how we develop our online content and launch new home service products.
Key Responsibilities
Design high-performance, reliable data pipelines to deliver insights into HomeX’s rapid user growth.
Develop and own real-time decision models that act on these insights and influence the efforts of other teams.
Generate sophisticated data visualizations that can be understood across the business.
Undertake data-driven studies to inform HomeX’s online content strategy.
Qualifications
A solid degree in a highly quantitative STEM subject such as Mathematics, Operations Research, or Computer Science, or a related technical discipline. MSc or PhD qualifications are a plus.
Familiarity with a range of up-to-date data science techniques, and knowledge of Bayesian statistics.
Experience with writing reliable code in languages such as Python or JavaScript/TypeScript, and collaborative coding with Git.
Interest or experience in database query languages such as SQL, and cloud-native data processing (AWS, Snowflake).Experience with or willingness to learn data visualization libraries such as D3.js.
Experience in mathematical modelling and/or simulation of complex systems from first principles.
Understanding of optimization concepts, for example linear and integer programming, is a plus.
