Job description
ColdQuanta is developing a quantum computing platform utilizing a novel approach with neutral cold atoms. Our quantum computer, Hilbert, arranges individual atoms and generates complex electromagnetic fields to control their quantum state in order to run quantum circuits that our customers will use to discover drugs, optimize the power grid, and develop novel applications for quantum computing.
We would like to apply techniques from advanced statistics and machine learning to a variety of problems including analyzing images of our atom array, running black box optimizations to keep our atoms cooled to a few ฮผK, and maintaining gate fidelity by tuning the hundreds of thousands of variables that are used to generate laser and microwave pulses.
Our software efforts are largely greenfield, and applicants should be comfortable delivering innovative solutions to novel and challenging problems. An ideal applicant will be able to work independently in exploring huge datasets to identify ways to improve our quantum computer and the software that makes it tick. Deep knowledge of quantum physics is not required for this position, but applicants should have a strong interest in learning how it all works.
The position will be based in Madison, WI or Boulder, CO, with collaboration at ColdQuanta's UK offices and the quantum computing research group at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.
ColdQuanta is an advanced cold-atom technology and engineering company, with scientists and engineers comprising more than 75% of its staff. ColdQuanta is a world leader in the development of quantum atomics - technology based on atoms cooled and controlled by lasers. The company has 12 years of experience developing products and systems for scientific and industrial applications including atomic clocks, inertial positioning, and radiofrequency sensing. Some of our hardware currently orbits the earth on the International Space Station. We are leveraging this deep experience in atomic systems to build a highly scalable quantum computing platform.
At ColdQuanta we benefit from our diverse team in tackling some of the hardest problems in fundamental science and engineering. ColdQuanta is proud to be an equal opportunity employer, committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, color, ancestry, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, citizenship, marital status, disability, gender identity, or veteran status.
This position may require access to information protected under U.S. export control laws and regulations, including the Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Please note that any offer for employment may be conditioned on authorization to receive software or technology controlled under these U.S. export control laws and regulations without sponsorship for an export license.
